Our luck had to run out sometime – today we had about 5 hours of rain
off and on, a couple of times quite heavy.
We wandered up the coast and then started our trek through the belly of
the beast (a large congested area) to get onto the north coast of Wales.
Along the way we pulled off into the little village of Beetham for a
coffee and right next door was the parish church. It was a lovely, small church. There were 5 ladies inside putting together
elaborate flower arrangements for the events that are scheduled on August 4th
to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I. We have been seeing events scheduled
everywhere we go for the last couple of weeks, all in this first week of
August.
Of course, the other big event going on is the Commonwealth Games which
we’ve seen some of each evening.
It was peculiar that as soon as we reached Wales, the sky was blue and
the sun was shining! We haven’t gone too
far into Wales. We originally thought
we’d stay in Rhyl but when we got there, there were loads of people celebrating
some festival and we figured we wouldn’t be able to find a place to stay so we headed on
along the coast.
We’ve stopped at a golf course, Rhos on Sea Golf Club, which has a
hotel attached. Since it’s Saturday
night they tell us there will be a DJ tonight and some karaoke. Should be a hoot!
