August 6 Aberporth, Wales

Drove down the center of Snowdonia National Park.  Fantastic scenery.  At one point we felt like we were in the rain forest in Washington State and at another point, we could have sworn we were in British Columbia.  For some reason we only stopped once and that was at a spot that said it had King Arthur’s Labyrinth.  What a rip!  It was a series of shops aimed at kids doing various crafts then the labyrinth was an underground ride on a boat in an abandoned mine – obviously aimed at children.

Stopped in Furnace to see a charcoal burning iron furnace.  It had a lovely waterfall beside the furnace and we discovered that it also is home to the lesser horseshoe bat.  This species is one of the smallest in Britain and gets its name from its horseshoe-shaped nose.

We’ve stopped today in Aberporth after much aggravation finding a place to stay.  We originally thought we’d stop at New Quay and it had some gorgeous scenery but when we got there, it was absolutely swamped and we couldn’t even stop to take photos.

Sending love R/P
