An extremely sad day. We learned
today that our sister, Pat Forbes, lost her battle with cancer.
A loving and gracious spirit with a fantastic sense of humor, she will
be missed tremendously. I wanted to
share some photos that show her beauty and generosity as well as put in the
obituary that is published in Victoria.

It is with deep, deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia Claire Forbes
(formerly Robinson) on 24 June 2014 in Victoria at age 54.
Pat lived her life to the fullest with no regrets – and she enjoyed every moment of it. Her
motto was “do it now, while you can, for tomorrow is not promised,” and she abided by that
motto each and every day. An immense zest for life was her defining characteristic.
Her laugh and sharp wit were her hallmarks and she infected everyone who was in her orbit.
Always optimistic and positive, Pat’s belief in others was inspirational, motivational and
unwavering. She had many great friends for she was a great friend to have.
She was an intensely proud Canadian. A voracious reader of fiction and non-fiction alike, Pat
was a well-studied historian, interested in all aspects of Canadian history as well as that of
Tudor England. She carried the Canadian flag on her many travels to Europe and the United
States, leaving the Canadian Spirit behind her wherever she went. Her trips to Europe always
saw her following in the footsteps of Canadian warriors.
Pat’s public service began with the Durham Regional Police Service and the Regional
Municipality of Durham in Ontario, and continued with the Government of British
Columbia. She possessed a gift of the English language and was a tremendously talented
writer and editor. Pat always brought out the best in those with whom she worked.
Living in Victoria was a lifelong dream of Pat’s, and after moving here in 2004, she extolled
the virtues of this city to the many friends and family who visited. She believed in supporting
local merchants and her shopping abilities were legendary. Once a Maple Leafs supporter,
she became a Canucks fan after moving here (much to the chagrin of her friends and former
colleagues in Eastern Canada). She also took delight in watching Olympic and international
league games, proudly cheering on Canadian teams at every opportunity.
Her generosity and kindness warmed the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know
her. She loved to cook and entertain at home, and was a gracious and lavish hostess.
Laughter and music always filled her home - from the Beach Boys to the Guess Who to Burton
Cummings, Pat was forever happy when she could crank up some good tunes. She was
known to dance her way across a ballroom floor and greatly enjoyed taking in the ballet.
Pat was a lifelong supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets
and many other charitable organizations.
Pat leaves her devoted husband, Robert and her loving children, Katie MacDonald (and husband Mackenzie Seaton) and Rebecca MacDonald, as well as her precious kitties Guv’nor and M’lady, all of Victoria. She was predeceased by her parents, Kay and Jim Carey of Oshawa, Ontario in 2003.
Taken from us all too soon, Pat touched the life of everyone she knew and had many friends
who will miss her deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund or Boomer’s Legacy
are requested.
