Seems like we were driving for a long time today. In the end, I think we went about 40-50
miles! So funny how your perspective
changes when you’re in holiday mode.
Yesterday in the hotel in Tavistock we saw two things I’ve never seen
before. First, the room had an electric
trouser press against the wall and here’s what it looked like.
When we checked in I asked if they had a luggage cart and was told no,
but they had a lift (elevator). We’ve
never seen an elevator like this before (we saw the same type of elevator when
we went out for a drink at a pub later in the evening.) It only goes up or down one floor and you
have to keep your finger on the button to have it move and then take your
finger off when you want it to stop. When you get to the floor you want, you have
to wait several seconds before you can push the door open to get out. Talk about having a moment of panic as the
door didn’t open initially!
We initially thought we would stop for the night in Okehampton and saw
a cute little indoor shopping mall but no vacancies anywhere. So we went on to Holsworthy but by the time
we got there, there was one room left above a pub with VERY narrow stairs and I
said no. Being a Saturday, and in this
popular area, we were concerned about finding anything.
We got to a small town on the coast of Cornwall called Bude and got a
booking through the visitor’s center at the best accommodation we’ve had so far
on this trip. It’s a B&B called Sea
Jade Guest House opposite the golf course, walking distance to the sea and town
and the biggest and brightest room we’ve had.
They have a lovely deck where we decided to have HH while watching the
golf across the street.
Sending love R/P
