Feeling somewhat stressed because I’m getting behind in posting with the lack of
service. Here in Bath the service is
problematic so I don’t know if I’m going to be able to post tomorrow morning or
not. Here’s the synopsis just so I
don’t forget the main points.
July 8 Little Petherick
We went off to the Minack Theatre which is an open air theatre built
into the stone cliff. The stage is at
the bottom and the sea is the backdrop.
Absolutely gorgeous place. I wish
we had done our homework because then we would have known that in order to get
in and see the theatre and the visitor’s center we had to have a ticket to a
performance. Most of the performances
are Shakespeare plays. When we got there
it was closed but they do have a viewing area where you can see at least part
of the theatre so we took dozens of photos.

Our next stop was Land’s End which is the western most point in
England. Unfortunately, they have really
tarted this up and we only stayed there for ten minutes.
We had arranged that we would meet Pat and friends in Little
Petherick. We just missed the turn-off
so pulled off the road to turn around and found ourselves behind another
car. That turned out to be Pat, who had
also missed the turn and when she pulled off the road she hit the curb and
flattened the tire. It took about 1-1/2
hours for the tow truck to come and pull her to the B and B we were booked at;
¾ of a mile down the road.
We really lucked out here. The
Old Mill House is a 16th century converted corn mill. It is absolutely beautiful with a lovely
stream and secluded gardens. The owners
had just bought the property and moved in 4 days before so they are feeling
their way along. They were delightful
people!

July 9 Little Petherick
Got the email that the computer was ready so Norm and I took off for
Falmouth to pick it up. Meanwhile Pat
and friends were waiting for Avis to come get them and the car so they could
get another vehicle.
Once we picked up the computer we meandered back up the coast and made
a couple of stops – nothing really worth mentioning.
July 10 Bath
Port Isaac this morning. This
was my number one place to see. It was
great to see all the places we know so well from the Doc Martin series; the
surgery, the pharmacy, Bert Large’s restaurant, the school, Louisa’s house. What a treat!!!

We then had to stop in Boscastle, a lovely, picturesque village on the
coast where Norm and Pat stayed with their folks the last time the four of them
came to England.
The drive to Bath took almost 5 hours and we were zapped by the time we
arrived here. When we pulled into the
driveway a car came right behind us, the owners. Turns out they didn’t know anything about our
reservation and in fact, they no longer live here but had just stopped in for
the night on their way to Germany tomorrow.
I had the confirming email from laterooms.com showing the booking last
February, on my phone. They had
apparently turned off laterooms.com at the beginning of the year because they
said that laterooms.com was not very good at keeping them informed plus they
had decided not to rent out this summer.
Yikes! They very graciously put
us up in the rooms we had booked and will give us our breakfast tomorrow
morning. Talk about lucky!!
