Very warm and muggy with enormous crowds around all the tourist areas.
Seems that the latest scam is that someone calls to you and asks if you
have lost a ring as they just picked one up beside you. When you say it isn’t yours, they look all
around and then offer to give it to you.
If you accept it, they then ask you for coffee money, 10 euros (about
$14). The 2nd time a woman offered
the ring to Norm, he burst out laughing at her and she didn’t know how to
respond to that.
We did go to some of the obligatory sights today – Arc de Triomphe,
Eiffel Tower, Museum of Modern Art and wandered down the Avenue des
Champs-Elysees.
There are literally thousands of scooters here, many three wheeled ones
and this little one which we thought was particularly cute.
We took the Metro for a couple of stops. It was standing room only and it went incredibly fast. When we got off we decided we would not have that experience again.
By mid-afternoon we were pretty well wiped and had to go back to the
hotel for a nap. We wandered out about 6
pm to walk some of the neighborhoods, something we always like to do, and found
a great little local spot for dinner.
Tomorrow we’re planning on taking the hop-on hop-off bus to some of the
other sights.
Sending love R/P
