July 25 Chester-le-Street, Durham

We really slept last night; I got up about 10 am and Norm about 11 am!  Where did that come from?

Grace and Paul took us through downtown Chester-le-Street and then over to St. Mary and St. Cuthbert church where a woman arrived directly behind us to open the door.  She then gave us a lot of the history of the church and showed us the replica of the first translation of the four gospels into English which happened here in the 7th century.  Three of Norm's cousins have been married in this church.

She then offered us the opportunity to ring the church bell which Paul and Norm took her up on.  What fun!!

We then had a lovely walk along the river called the Durham Cathedral Riverbanks which ended at Durham Cathedral and we went through some of the Cathedral.  By about 3:30, we were getting cranky because of the heat so decided to go home and sit in the garden (in the shade).
