July 12 Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire

Again with the long drives.  And tomorrow we will have to spend some time on the road again as we make our way to London.  Thank heaven that the following 5 days we will not even enter a car!

Norm, Pat and I drove to Ely today for a short visit with Norm and Pat’s cousin Pearl.   We didn’t get a chance to look around the town at all as it was a 2-1/2 hour drive one way and we needed to get back to Stratford at a reasonable time, but Norm and I will be 30 miles away at another cousins place next week so we may get the chance to go back and explore the Ely Cathedral.

When we got back to Stratford we had the chance to explore some of the town.  What a lovely spot!  It was quite warm and muggy (77 degrees F) so not the most comfortable but the place is packed with people; of course it’s Saturday and it’s in the middle of the summer!  Got to see many things associated with William Shakespeare including his gravesite in the Holy Trinity Church.

Got a kick out of all the people taking lessons on rowing shells who then had to race another group when they felt comfortable with their lessons.  It made for very pretty pictures.

This was our last dinner together before Pat goes back to LA and John and Edie spend 4 days in London before heading back to LA.

Sending love R/P
