Had to make the pit stop in Royal Leamington Spa as that is where Norm
was born and we found the house where he was actually born, still standing and
still occupied.
We did the walk through the Jephson Gardens where he remembers being
taken as a small child and discovered a new building called The Glass House
which is a greenhouse you can walk through – felt like walking in Toronto in
August – sweltering. Beautiful plants
though and we enjoyed it very much.
There is a statue of Queen Victoria downtown where “ a German bomb
moved this statue one inch on its plinth on the 14th November 1940.” If you look closely (and the photo is not the
greatest) you can see a gap on the left so it is not sitting square on the
pedestal.
The Sat Nav had some difficulty once we reached London and kept trying
to make us turn right when either there was no possibility or it was
illegal. After some go-arounds we
finally got to our hotel. When we were shown
into our room, we sat down and laughed.
It’s just slightly bigger than our room on the train. Amtrak could take a lesson on how to maximize
space, though, as shown in the photo below of the bathroom. We’ve never seen a toilet that is
manufactured to fit into a corner – too cute!!
A great feature is that our room is on the ground floor so no lugging
bags up and down stairs – yah!!!
We had a little walk around. Our
hotel is across the street from St.Pancras station where we will take the
Eurostar to Paris tomorrow. But an early
night tonight as Norm wants to watch the final World’s Cup game.
Sending love R/P
